Understanding Your Native Neighbour

On November 8th, Steve McGuire, from Faith Lutheran Church, introduced our guest speaker, Darrell LaFrance, who spoke on Native Spirituality.

Constable Darrell LaFrance is a member of the Durham Regional Police Service and is an Algonquin Nation Native, who is also a native dancer and storyteller. He was dressed in his dance regalia, splendid in eagle feathers and deer skin chaps, and moose skin moccasins. He is known as "Eagle Dancer." He is also a ninth-degree black belt, and is the highest-ranked sensei in Kumo Ju-jitsu in North America.

Most First Nations stories focus on a moral. Darrell shared the story of how the bear lost his tail. What lessons can you learn from this story? Read more...
